Bióloga del Departamento de Entomología de la Universidad Estatal de Washington. Conjunatamente con Walter S. Sheppard, describieron Apis mellifera pomonella, una nueva subespecie de Apis mellifera. Los autores también describieron en 1997 Apis mellifera ruttneri o Abeja de Malta. También trabaja en el Institut für Bienenkunde, en Oberursel, Alemania.
