Herbert Ferlando Schwarz, (1883-1960). Entomólogo estadounidense, especialista en Hymenopteros, mayormente en abejas sin aguijón, de la Tribu Meliponini. Numerosos géneros y especies fueron descriptas por él. Schwarz se desempeñaba en la sección de insectos y arañas del American Museum of Natural History (Museo Americano de Historia Natural), conjuntamente con Mont A. Cazier, como Chairman and Associate Curator, C. H. Curran, como curador y los doctores Willis J. Gertsch, Charles D. Michener, Margaret L. Saulina, Ernest L. Bell, Cyril F. Dos Passsos, T. D. A. Cockerell, Alfred E. Emerson, E. Irving Huntington, Alexander B. Klots, Herman T. Spieth, William P. Constock, James H. McDunnough todos ellos investigadores asociados al Museo en 1948.
Schwarz describió numerosos géneros de abejas sin aguijón como Plebeia, Partamona, y le fueron dedicados en su honor géneros como Schwarzula y Schwarziana.
